Start Somewhere {Day 1}

Today, I want to commit myself to write a blog every day for the next 30 days. Why? Well, one reason is that I want to force myself to articulate my message better in writing form. But I think the main reason is buried in my character or the lack of.

Up to this point, I have gone through life doing what I want when I want and how I want. But everything I did was comfortable because I made sure I was placed in an environment that was comfortable for me. It was natural, God-given, and I didn’t have to work on it as much as others would have. But for writing this is the complete opposite. I have always envied those that could write well and had the ability to articulate their message clearly and simply. But my response was, and this is where the lack of character comes in, it’s not God-given, and I am not meant to write. Well to that I will say here is complete BS. I may not have the gift of writing, so it won’t come very natural to me, but I do have the dermination to learn.

God has given me a platform and messages in my heart that I feel needs to be shared and connected with. I may not be a good writer, but I don’t want to be a writer. I want to be a teacher, not even that a companion with you during this time. I want to walk with you. I want to learn from you and be captivated by you. I am not here to earn a profit. I am here to earn your trust and be kind to the attention you have given me.

Committing myself to write about ideas that I have, reflections of what is going on around me and us will help me not only become a better writer but also a better thinker and human. I want to be a man Fully Alive and for me, right now at this moment, it is to start the process of writing.

If you are reading this blog post right now, I hope you can stay with me for the long haul. I will be here for a while and I am not going anywhere. Though I really hope my writing does and my ability to articulate my messages clearly and simply improves.

Please do not hesitate to comment below. I want your feedback and your insights. I am not going to do this alone. I want this blog to be the start of something fresh and exciting. To be a place where Young Leaders are empowered, engaged and commissioned. I am a Young Leader like you and I am with you for the long haul.

We will end with this quote from the man who has inspired me to start, Seth Godin;

“…committing to having a point of view and scheduling a time and place to say something is almost certainly going to improve your thinking, your attitude, and your trajectory.

A daily blog is one way to achieve this. Not spouting an opinion or retweeting the click of the day. Instead, outlining what you believe and explaining why.

Commit to articulating your point of view on one relevant issue, one news story, one personnel issue. Every day. Online or off, doesn’t matter. Share your taste and your perspective with someone who needs to hear it.

Speak up. Not just tomorrow, but every day.

A worthwhile habit.”
