For the first time in history, we have access to some of the greatest leadership minds with the touch of a button. And not only do we have access to them, but they are available to us at any time of day, wherever we are, on whatever topic we would like… for free. Thirty years ago this would’ve been considered fiction, and yet here it is: the podcast.

Podcasts are pretty much essential to any young leader, and whether you listen to one per week or have them playing as a soundtrack to your life, I wanted to provide you with a short list of podcasts that have inspired me in the business and leadership field.

A dream of mine is to one day host a podcast that features young leaders sharing their stories, but that is for another day. Right now, I want to share with you what I think every young leader should be listening to.

Michael Hyatt is in my opinion, one of the greatest thinkers in the world of leadership. He went from being the CEO of a publishing firm to starting up his own leadership mentor company. On the Lead to Win podcast, he shares about his own experiences as well as other things that leaders have undergone as covers topics like productivity, time management, and ways to practice leadership in everyday life.

I enjoy Michael Hyatt because despite his wealth of knowledge and experience, he’s still a humble man who isn’t afraid to take risks and put in the hard work it takes to make his ideas pay off.

Building a StoryBrand is a podcast you can’t miss. One of my personal favorites, every episode features crazy talented guests who come on the show to discuss leadership, business, entrepreneurship, and marketing, all through the lens of story. StoryBrand is a new marketing strategy being taught by Donald Miller, and we listen as him and his hilarious co-cost, JJ, talk about what it means to place your customer as the hero and how that looks in a business practically. I highly recommend it!

Entreleadership was a term coined by Dave Ramsey in an effort to convey the message that leadership and entrepreneurship can and should work together cohesively. The EntreLeader Podcast invites experts in a variety of fields to discuss topics that revolve around a combination of leadership and entrepreneurship. This podcast is extremely professional and well produced and gives away a ton of valuable free content to their listeners. You really can’t go wrong!

If you’re looking for someone to teach you how to build a small business through authenticity, trust and transparency, Pat Flynn is your man. His podcast doesn’t feature many guests, but his work is outstanding and extremely well thought out. This is the ideal resource if you’re looking for ideas and practical skills for how to run a small business.

I recommend this podcast with a grain of salt, as you have to be willing to wade through a steady stream of strong language, however, Mr. Vaynerchuk is a brilliant man and very much worth listening to. He is transforming the digital marketing mindset and approaching it as a hard-nose, go-get-it-grit-hustle type of business. He is continually preaching the message of hardwork, grit, and self-awareness and forces you to take a look at yourself before making excuses and blaming things on the environment you are in. His podcast motivates and equips you with life skills while providing intelligent social media strategies. Gary Vaynerchuk is a personality not to be missed.

I know that there are probably a hundred other podcasts that would be good for young leaders, and I would love to hear about them in the comments below. This list is simply the top 5 that I would recommend. And now comes the exciting part… actually go listen to them! I challenge you to try a few out and see what topics interest you. You never know what you might learn. :)
